Roger’s Memory

Janette was the third child Reg & Vera Dann, She had 2 older brother’s Reg & Graham followed by 2 younger brothers John & Derek. Being the only girl, she was always protected by her brothers.
We met in the 60’s... she was 17 and I was 18 and it was love first sight... it was the era of the mini skirt and she had a smashing pair of legs... not to mention, a clean pair of knickers due to the length of her skirts.
We were married 10th May 1975, so it would have been 45 years this year and together for 54.
After leaving school, Janette trained as a hairdresser and worked for various leading salons in the Coventry area, such as Bernard Fox, Owen Owen, Ian Hunts and eventually having her own salon in Bedworth “His n Hers. “
She was very proud of that, but it was hard work. I always remember her telling me about ladies coming in with a photo of a celebrity and saying I want my hair cut and styled like that please... and having a good sense of humour, she’s say“ see this (comb)... it’s a comb, not a magic wand.
Janette cut the hair of all her family & friends hairs and whenever she visited, they’d say, “Don’t forget to bring your scissors”. A typical hairdresser, all her friends looked radiant when they went out, after Janette had done their hair... hers would look ok.
It took us until 1983 to produce our first born Natasha... it was a long wait, but the trying was good. In 1986, our second born Andrew arrived. He was a big bugger weighing in at 9lb 6oz and I remember saying in front of the nurse to, much to Janette’s annoyance, “what size would he have been if you’d given up smoking? “
A very good & true friend Carol, who worked both with and for Janette for many years, took over doing her Mum’s hair, after Janette had her bleed. This one time, I remember asking Carol to let Janette have a go. Janette did no more than get the tail comb and start sectioning the hair to roller it. Carol passed the rollers up and Janette, with the tail comb between her teeth, rolled the hair onto the roller. She completed the top of her Mum’s hair before saying “ I’ve had enough now “ and sitting down. Carol commented that it was good, probably not as tight as she used to do, but she still had it.
Janette loved her music... her favourite musical was the Sound of music and she knew all the songs by heart...we used to joke that she had the voice of an angel, and she always added, “ being strangled“... another example of her sharp wit and timing.
In August 2018 she became Nanny to baby Alba (Natasha / Jaume) and 2 weeks later in September 2018 Nanny to baby Theo (Andrew / Laura). Typical that it was just like buses, we waited for ages and 2 came at once!
My comfort is, we were there for her at the end also her last words to me were “ Darling I do love you”.
She was the BEST. wife , soul mate, mother , nanny, auntie, sister ,friend and she’ll be sadly missed by all. Love her “always willa “, “always shalla “, “always wanna” ,”always gunna”, and that’s the whole repertoire, So help me GOD & DOG forwards / backwards

Andrew’s Memory

As a child I was always known as a ‘mummy’s boy’. I was led to believe I was the biggest contraceptive when I would sneak into their bed up to the age of 8, much to the annoyance of my dad. Despite Mum being a hairdresser herself there was nothing more that she would love at the end of the day than me twiddling her hair. She used to always say that ‘I would make a good hairdresser’. She would always give me words of encouragement so she would get a nice relaxing head massage, however it would more often than not end up with me twiddling her hair so hard she would need to cut her own hair to release my finger.

Natasha’s Memory

One of my most treasured memories is how we all enjoyed last Christmas and New Year together in Spain. I am so pleased she got to spend time with me, Alba and Jaume and his family. We spent real quality time together and did many things. With Jaume’s parents, the language barrier didn't matter. My mum and dad would sing and dance to ‘Viva Espana' and everyone would enjoy and join in. Alba adored her and when Mum used to get excited she would shout “Wahey”. Alba would love this, throw her arms in the air and shout “Wayhey!” too.

Richard’s Memory

It was our wedding, we were in the aisle...just completed our vows to each other...silence in the room when...........
“What a load of Bollocks!” were the words Janette used at the top of her lungs.....
The laughter ensued and finally everyone was at ease.
Janette had impeccable timing so much so she would give Tommy Cooper a run for his money. The laughter will remain with us forever, and so you rest peacefully Janette.
All our love Rich, Sharon and Joseph

Laura’s Poem

You always had a smile, a hug or a kiss
You brightened up a room and that I’m going to miss
You loved to have a chat or a little dance
And on the TV you liked a bit of romance

As we walked past, you’d pat strangers on the head
It would make me laugh, ‘Hello Darlin’ you said
I’d give you a glass of wine, and it wouldn’t even touch the sides
Wearing your headphones on the plane,
You sang so loud they would have heard you in Spain
Billy bolly bungle got stuck in the jungle
And who got him out, little billy sprout!

On our wedding day when Andy mixed his words up
You shouted ‘Go on Darlin’ which was the perfect backup
When Theo came along you loved to hold him tight
Although when asked his name you couldn’t quite get it right
Wilson would bring you his ball and drop it in your lap
You’d launch it across the room and then we’d hear a crash

Things will never quite be the same without you here
But don’t worry about Roger, we’ll always keep him near
Sleep tight dear Janette, we will never forget x x
